Poison Dart Frog Pencil Drawing

This is the pencil drawing for a custom illustration.  Used a 7H and an HB pencil on vellum finish paper. I'm looking forward to using all my jewel tones to color these deadly beauties.  They may not be fish, but I am definitely happy to look at them behind glass.

Oh the Places You'll Go.

A few days ago I started a Fiver Gig.  I've been drawing a hellephant coloring page as described by the client and emailing a grayscale Jpg.  Well it's just about the most fun I've ever had.  Here are some of the pages so far. Some are jobs from fiver, some are from peeps on the regretsy forums.

Pet Portraits

I'm going to continue with my ocean illustration, but for the last few weeks I've been working on some land lubber portraits.  I'd like you to see these cuties.  I'm not saying the fish aren't just as pretty, but these are so much cuddlier.

Peacock Mantis Shrimp Illustration Color Stages

After scanning in my drawing and uploading it to Photoshop, I built a vector layer  following the silhouette of the peacock mantis shrimp.  This made it relatively easy to add color.  I used this vector layer to build masks for my color layers.  I also chose a gradient similar to the blue sea slugs illustration, hoping for the same shallow water feel.

After the initial color was in, I started adding texture and shading layers.  I also used the lighten mode of my paintbrush to add color to the line art itself.  A drop shadow and an orange glow around the fringes finished the piece nicely.

If you threw a praying mantis, a shrimp and a peacock into a blender and instead of making bisque it made a creature, this would be it.  I couldn't make up the coloration either, wait for the next post. This is a commissioned piece, but I will be offering it in my Etsy store as well.  Incase you need some creepy sensational aquatic art for your foyer.
